Travis’s “best day ever”

I had the honour of photographing Travis last year on a celebration day that Travis later said to his mum was his “best day ever”. It was a day for his family and friends to have fun, make memories and celebrate the wonderful little human being that Travis was. There were magicians, and jumping castles, Police cars and fire engines. There were piñatas to be whacked and Pokemon cupcakes to be eaten. There was a rabbit to be pulled from a hat and cuddled by 30 kids! There was music and dancing and laughter…

Photographing this celebration was one of the most heartbreaking and heart-filling things I have been able to do as a photographer.

You can read more about Travis and his incredible bravery on his mum’s Facebook Blog - ‘The Braveheart Vs the big lump’. On there she shares a beautiful video of when Travis visited the Queensland Police Service for the day and was sworn in as a Special Junior Constable… fulfilling one of his dreams. His giggle and toothless smile when he tells the person interviewing him what he thought about it all will bring a giant smile to your face, I promise you. He was just a divine little human and he will be forever remembered by everyone whose lives were touched by him.
