Who is the person behind the camera?

That’s me!

Hi, I’m Sarah.

I’m 38.

I am an introvert, a Virgo and a (recovering) perfectionist! I’m also an eldest child.

There, that’s all of the psychoanalysis bit out of the way! haha.

My husband and I have been together for 20 years. We’ve been married for 13. We were uni sweethearts and three days after we started going out, he moved to Canberra and then overseas and we did a long distance relationship for nearly four years… before camera phones… before FaceTime… when you still had to wait until 7pm to make a (cheaper) STD call - and that was when he was living in Australia! Crazy, huh! But we were head over heels in love with each other and we got through it.

Since then we’ve built a home and a life in Brisbane and have watched the years fly by.

We have two boys - they’re 11 (aka Monkey) and 8-years-old (aka The Bear). They’re hilarious and make me laugh, endlessly, every day.

Monkey is a mini version of his dad in looks and a real split down the middle of both of us when it comes to personality.

The Bear is an old soul. He often says philosophical things that leave us with our mouths hanging open and exchanging sideways glances with one another at the dinner table! He also has dark, curly hair… which is a total throw-back in the gene pool somewhere along the line!

I’m very proud to be their mum. They’re also getting to an age where they aren’t particularly keen on me taking photos of them all the time… very sad face… (hence, “card eyes” below).

I’m an Occupational Therapist by trade, but I had to flip my career about four years ago (due to my “gammy hip”) and I now work part-time in project and change management, which I really enjoy.

I love cleans sheets, rainy days and cold weather. All three together are absolute bliss!

I drink a lot of coffee and I love a good NZ sav blanc.

I couldn’t possibly choose a favourite food… life is too short to only love one delicious thing. But I am definitely a sweet tooth at heart!

I can recite lines out of pretty much any romantic comedy released between 1988 and 2006…what a useless skill that is! I actually really need that brain space back!

I had my own column in a scrapbooking magazine for a year when I was 19.

I worked at the Sydney Olympics and my husband is an Olympian - although that’s not how we met.

I have a weakness for buying children’s books, particularly picture books - our house is full of them!

I love getting out of the city and exploring the beautiful corner of Queensland where we live and being up in the mountains is my happy place.

…and I love photography.

Taking photos of families - yours and mine - is my most favourite thing!
